Did you see the hype around butter boards? Essentially, softened butter is spread onto a board, usually a wooden or marble one, and topped with a variety of flavourful toppings. The concept is similar to a charcuterie board but revolves around butter as the star ingredient. We've put our own spin on things, making them cheesy!
You can garnish the cheese with various items such as:
- Herbs (like rosemary, thyme, or parsley)
- Edible flowers
- Flaky sea salt
- Maple syrup or agave
- Chili flakes or other spices
- Garlic, lemon zest, or olives
The idea is for your guests to scoop up the cheese and toppings with bread, crackers, or vegetables. It’s designed to be a communal, shareable appetiser that's bound to get people talking!
Garlic & Herb 'Butter' Board
Serves 2-4 (serves 4 if accompanied by other nibbles as part of a spread)Ingredients
130g Garlic & Herb
1/2 Red onion - thinly sliced
1/2 lemon squeezed on onion
Salt/Pepper
2 Fresh Figs - sliced
Pomegranate seeds - handful
Fresh Thyme
Walnuts
A few types of crackers
Method
Start by lightly pickling your slices of onion in lemon juice and a pinch of salt - then set aside.
On a clean serving platter or chopping board, spread the softened cheese using the back of a spoon, making little swirls as you spread. We'll upload a video to Facebook and Instagram so that you can see exactly what we mean!
Start by layering the chunks of fig on top of the cheese, then scatter the pomegranate seeds around them. Add the red onions, crumbled walnuts and sprigs of thyme - filling the spaces as you go.
Season with salt and pepper, accompany with crackers and you're ready to go!
You could finish with a drizzle of maple syrup and/olive oil. Or consider candying your nuts ahead of time.
